Candy Cane Winter Bark
Ingredients
12 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped or chips
12 ounces white chocolate, chopped or chips*
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract (optional but extra mintiness is preferred)
6 candy canes, crushed all tiny
Directions

First off, this is a recipe where it’s 100% cool to just eyeball it. If you’re freaked out by the ounce measurements up there just say fuck it and go off whatevers on the package of chocolate you bought and guess. The beauty of bark is it requires zero precision. Just melt shit and let it set. Got it? Now, line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Here we go.

There's two ways you can melt the chocolate for this recipe. You can melt it by either slowly heating the white and semisweet chocolate in separate bowls in the microwave in 25 second increments, stirring in-between, until it's all liquidy then following the rest of the directions below. OR you build a double boiler like a boss. We always go boiler.

Grab 1 medium saucepan, fill it with a couple inches of water, and get it to a simmer over medium high heat. Grab 2 all metal bowls and place the semisweet chocolate in one and the white chocolate in another. Once the water is simmering, place the bowl with the semisweet chocolate on top of the saucepan, just make sure the whole mouth of the saucepan is covered, and that the water inside isn’t touching the bottom of the bowl. The steam will evenly melt the chocolate, just keep stirring and trust the method. This whole process should take about 3 minutes.

When the semisweet chocolate is all smooth and melted, turn off the heat and pour the chocolate over the parchment paper in a somewhat even, rectangle shaped layer. Easy shit. Spread it around with the back of a spoon until you get something resembling an 6’’ by 18’’ rectangle. Set that aside to cool while you do all the same shit to melt the white chocolate. Once that’s melted, stir in the peppermint extract until it's all combined then pour this over the semisweet chocolate in an even layer. You can take a tooth pick and kind swirl the two together if you're into details or just wanna be extra for Instagram, then sprinkle over the candy cane bits and lightly press them into the chocolate to make sure they stick. Put this in the fridge for at least 20 minutes or a cool place in your house until the chocolate hardens. Chop it up and then enjoy.

Wanna mix it up? Melt 24 ounces of semisweet chocolate and just 8 ounces of white. Drizzle the white over the semisweet and then press in your favorite shit like chopped pretzels, nuts, marshmallows, candied ginger or fruit, whatever the fuck you like. Simple shit and it always looks impressive.

*it can be hard to find white chocolate without dairy but it's totally fucking worth the quest. We used THIS brand (not an ad)
